Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

DSC is a digital signature which is similar to a handwritten signature but it is far more secure and reliable. DSC is a mathematical practice which is used for validating the credibility and integrity of a message or an electronic document. Digital Signature Certificate ensures the safety and security of the document or message. It is used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or that of a signer of a document, and it also ensures that the original element of the message or document that has been sent remains unchanged. Digital signatures are easily transferable and cannot be copied by someone else. It has the ability to ensure that the original signed documents or message received are sent by the sender and he cannot easily deny it later. These signatures are validated by a governing body which also gives the sender both keys i.e; Private key (for a sender to encrypt their signature on documents) and Public key(for a receiver to validate the signature of the sender). Digital Signature Certificate is not only used for communication between two parties but is also used for various online transactions like banking, income tax filling, etc. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has made it compulsory for companies and businesses to file all reports, applications, and forms by using a digital signature only.

benefits of the Digital Signature Certificates

Added security: Digital Signature Certificate provides more security than an electronic signature. The data in a digital signature remains permanently embedded within a message or document. It can be easily detected if someone has tampered or tried to alter the document after signing it.

Legal compliance: It is almost impossible to alter the content of an electronically signed document. Printouts of emails can be manipulated and hence cannot be accepted as legal valid evidence but digital signatures cannot be changed which makes it a legal valid proof. Also the identity of the person who electronically signed the document can also be clearly confirmed.

Globally Accepted: The documents can be signed quickly and at any time irrespective of where the person is in the world. It is less time-consuming and more efficient.

Classes of Digital Certificates: On the basis of need and requirement, the DSC is classified into three types. These types determine which DSC should be applied depending upon the kind of applicant and the reason for which the Digital Signature Certificate is required. There are three classes of digital signature certificates. They are:

•   Dsc  Class 1
•   Dsc Class 2
•   Dsc Class 3

Class 1 digital signature: These certificates are provided to individual / private users. These are used in the database of the certifying authority for validating the user's name, email, and contact details from the clearly defined subject. It is used to low the threats of unauthorized data access providing security and safety.

Class 2 digital signature: These certificates are issued to businesses and to private subscribers. These certificates are used for the IT return e-filling, filling other government forms with MCA where there is a considerable risk of any tampering.

Class 3 digital signature: These certificates are issued to both individuals and organizations. These certificates possess the highest assurance level and are used for e-commerce applications.

Why is (DSC) Online Digital Signature Certificate required: A digital signature certificate is used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or that of a signer of a document, and it also ensures that the original element of the message or document that has been sent remains unchanged. Digital signatures are easily transferable and cannot be copied by someone else. It has the ability to ensure that the original signed documents or messages received are sent by the sender and he cannot easily deny it later. The physical documents always require a handwritten signature to verify their authenticity. In the same way, electronic documents also require authentication. Digital Signature Certificate serves to validate the electronic document. The digital signature is an electronic signature that is used by senders of certain documents to show that the document belongs to them. They also provide amazing security to the document. If there is an alteration in the document then the receiver will get to know because of the digital signature. Digital signature certificates contain the person’s name, address with pin-code, their country name, their email address, the date when the certificate was issued, and the certifying authority’s name. How a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) works

A Digital Signature Certificate precisely associates the identity of a person/device with two electronic keys that are known as public and private keys and this association is supported by the Certifying Authority. The certificate contains information about the user's identity like their name, address, Pincode, country, email address, the date the certificate was issued on, and the name of the Certifying Authority that is issuing it. These keys are correlated to each other and cannot perform in the absence of each other. The keys are used by servers for encrypting and decrypting information of the certificate user during information exchange processes. The private key is stored on the sender’s computer hard disk or on an external device known as a token. The user holds control of the private key which can only be used with the issued password. The public key is broadcasted with the encrypted information. The authentication process fails if either one of these keys not matches or is unavailable. This means that the encrypted data or message cannot be decoded and is, therefore, inaccessible to prohibited parties.
