The term FSSAI stands for the Food Safety and Standards Authority Of India. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is a legal body that ensures the safety of food in India. FSSAI is a regulatory body that governs and supervises the food business in India. Every food business operator (FBO) in India who is involved in the production, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of food items is obliged to acquire FSSAI Registration. FSSAI Registration is different from FSSAI License in terms of the size of the food business units. FSSAI was developed under the Ministry of Health Family Welfare, Government of India and is established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The head of the FSSAI is located in Delhi and other regional offices are located in different states. FSSAI frames the regulations and standards to ensure the safety and quality of food products for human consumption.FSSAI is a legal body that ensures the safety of food in India.

Types of FSSAI License

 

The FSSAI registration or license is generally based on the volume of the food business operators. FSSAI Registration or License can be classified mainly into three categories:

1.    Basic FSSAI License. 
2.    State FSSAI License. 
3.    Central FSSAI License.

FSSAI Basic Registration: 

There is no license for small FBO’s only the registration is mandatory. There are many food business operators like retailers, marketers, distributors who require FSSAI registration for business. For Basic food registration in Rajasthan, the estimated turnover is 12 lakh rupees. The maximum tenure of this license is 5 years and the minimum is 1 year. Following are the FBO’s that need to apply for food license under the basic FSSAI: registration

  • Food business operators ( Manufacturers, Retail Producers, distributors, hotels, sellers, cafes, restaurants etc) whose annual turnover is less than Rs12 lakhs.
  • Small cottage industries dealing in food items.
  • Dairy units involved in any food-related activities having a capacity of not more than 500 liters per day.
  • Having a slaughtering capacity of not more than 2 large animals or 10 small animals or 50 poultry birds per day.
  • Production of vegetable oils should not exceed more than 100 liters per day.

FSSAI State License: 

The Food business operators which have small-sized producing, storing, transporting units. These are small scale organizations that need to obtain their FSSAI License nu from State Government. It is required to have this operation in only one state. For State FSSAI License in Rajasthan, the estimated turnover is above 12 lakh rupees. The maximum tenure of this license is 5 years and the minimum is 1 year. The following are the FBO’s that need to apply for food license under the State FSSAI:

  • Food business operators ( Manufacturers, Retail Producers, distributors, sellers, cafes, restaurants, etc.) whose annual turnover is more than Rs12 lakhs.
  • Dairy units involved in any food-related activities having a capacity of not more than 500 to 50000 liters per day.
  • Hotels with 4-star ratings or less.
  • Slaughtering capacity of 2 to 50 large animals and 150 small animals.

Central FSSAI License: 

The organizations who are larger in size in terms of manufacturing, importers, exporters, sales need to acquire their FSSAI License from the Central Government. For the Central FSSAI License in Rajasthan, the estimated turnover should be around 20 crores and food business operators can expand their business in other states as well. The maximum tenure of this license is 5 years and the minimum is 1 year. Food business operators (Manufacturers, Retail producers, distributors, hotels, cafes, restaurants, etc) whose annual turnover is more than 20 crores.

  • Hotels with 5-star ratings.
  • All the food business operators that want to expand their business in more than one state.
  • FBO’s having a slaughtering capacity of 50 large animals or more than 150 small animals.

Important instructions:

  • Food business operators must apply for FSSAI registration or License.
  • If any food business operator is operating in more than 1 state then an additional central license is required necessarily.
  • Food business operators must obey the rules and regulations in order to get their licenses.

 

FSSAI Rules for food license in Rajasthan

All the FBO’s in Rajasthan which deal in manufacturing, Supplier, Retail, Markters, transportation and storage of food items must require FSSAI Registration or License. Once the registration certificate issued, it must be placed noticeably visible at the business premises.

The FSSAI License should be kept updated if there are any changes or modifications made in the business. and No fee is required to be paid for Non - Form A and B modification. There should be no any such product other than mentioned on the FSSAI License.

The food business operators holding the license must employ at least one person who sees and guides the production process. This person should hold a degree in science or diploma in Food Technology or Hotel Management or any other discipline.

The FSSAI holders need to file their annual returns (1st April to 31st march) which is up to 31st May of each year.The business operator can file for FSSAI annual return as per their convenience. The annual return form is available in two forms D1 and D2 the operator can fill it

What is FSSAI

FSSAI means Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. FSSAI is an Indian independent body responsible for maintaining safety, nutrition and hygiene in the production, sale, storage and import of all types of food items in India. It has a license number of 14 figures.If you find any substance adulterated then you can inform it to FSSAI. The FSSAI was established to protect customers from poisonous and dangerous foods. Its rules are implemented from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Why FSSAI Required

Obtain FSSAI registration in Rajasthan is a requirement for every food business operator essentially involved in the manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale of food products. Depending on the nature of the business, FBOs must obtain the FSSAI registration is required for all FBOs involved in small scale food trade. the Basic registration is required for those whose annual turnover is less than 12 lakhs and the state license is required for those whose annual turnover is less than 30 crore.

Penalty Under Fssai

FBO found manufactures for sale, store or cafe or distributes or imports any food item for human consumption which is misbranded will be liable to a penalty that is extended up to Rs. 3 lakhs and The FBO’s who are found to be manufactures for sale, store or sells, distributes, imports any food item for human consumption containing extraneous matter will be liable to pay a penalty up to Rs. 1 lakh or Anyone who breaches the rules and regulations of FSSAI Act will be liable to pay a penalty of Rs. 2 lakhs.

FOSCOS (Food Safety Compliance System) Launched By FSSAI

 

Which is effective from 01.06.2020. This is a good initiative taken by the Indian Government for the utilization of the services provided by FSSAI in a guided manner. This new has replaced the old FLRS System. For the initial launch of FoSCoS June, 2020, States/UTs of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi, Odisha, Manipur, Chandigarh, Puducherry, and Ladakh have been selected. All the licenses/registrations pertaining to the State will be available on FoSCoS https://foscos.fssai.gov.in and the FLRS data shall be disabled for taking any action after its launch in any state/UT. The focus has been made available so that users can get familiar with the system. 

Food License In Rajasthan

As per the FSSAI regulations, 2006 it is compulsory to possess food license in Rajasthan for any undertaking carrying out any activity related to production, processing, storage, distribution, transportation of food, sales of food items. Food License Certificate Number

When the Food business operators get registered with the Food License in Rajasthan, they are provided with an exclusive 14 - Digit registration number. It is informed by law that they get this number printed on every package of the food item. Along with the FSSAI Logo. Restaurants, Hotels, and Cafes should always keep this FSSAI Certificate on display at a noticeable place in their premises during the working hours. This certificate shows the customers that this business, food unit etc. have gone through various safety checks as the FSSAI guidelines. The certificate assures the customers of the safety and quality of food items they are purchasing from that store or eatery is free from contamination and is safe to consume. Also, there are some apps like Swiggy, Zomato, etc, that take online food orders from different and vast restaurants. These apps have been also directed by the FSSAI, to provide the restaurant with a rating based on the level of hygiene maintained by them.

Guidelines of FSSAI registration or License in Rajasthan:

  • The FSSAI logo and license number of the brand shall be displayed on the food packages in case of more than one unit. The addresses of different units shall carry the FSSAI License number.
  • The FSSAI logo or License number be displayed on the food packages in color contrast to the background.
  • In the case of imported food items, the FSSAI logo or license should be displayed on the package along with importers' names and addresses. It can be printed on the label or a sticker is fixed before customs clearance.
  • The format of labeling should be according to food safety and standards (Packaging and labeling), 2011.
  • The presence of the FSSAI logo or License number on the label is not any kind of certification but it indicates that the FBO holds a valid license under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
