Types of GST in India

 

The Central Goods and Services Tax: CGST is referred as the Central Tax levied on transactions of goods and services that take place within a state. Goods and Service Tax Identification Number: GSTIN is a unique code that is assigned to each taxpayer and it is state-wise and PAN-based. Here is the breakdown of the 15-digit GSTIN format:

  • The first two digits of the number represent the state code as per the Indian Census 2011. Every state or Union territory has a unique code. For example, 27 stands for Maharashtra, and 09 is for Uttar Pradesh. 
  • The next ten digits are the PAN number of the taxpayer or the business unit. 
  • The 13th digit indicates the entity of the same PAN. It will be an Alphanumeric digit (first 1-9 and then A-Z)
